Tottenham don’t look in great shape at present. Defensively shambolic in the 5-0 home mauling against Liverpool last week, a result that cost Andre Villas-Boas his job, Spurs were then eliminated from the Capital One Cup at the hands of West Ham in midweek and that has led to many pundits questioning what is wrong at White Hart Lane.
However, it’s perhaps a touch premature to completely write off the North London outfit who are in seventh spot and took seven points from the available nine in the three matches prior to the Liverpool defeat.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to recommend them at 2/1 via Skybet to collect three points at Southampton, although that’s more because of the quality of the Saints rather than any crisis in the Tottenham ranks.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men seem to have come out of the back of their recent wobble, picking up decent points at home to Manchester City and away at Newcastle and it seems like only a matter of time before they end their winless streak.
William Hill make them 8/5 to do it in this contest but as Spurs aren’t the doomed club everybody seems to think they are, a close encounter is on the cards at the St Mary’s Stadium, where BetVictor rate the hosts at 10/3 to shade it by one.
Alternatively, Southampton are a generous 10/1 (bet365) to register a 2-1 triumph and 11/2 via BetVictor to prevail on the back of a level first period.
