Back Winner Massagot 5/4

Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Sunday; Winner Massagot in the Market Rasen 15:20. Compare odds and bet.

Hopefully the ground won’t be too bad (in comparison to everywhere else at present) at Market Rasen on Sunday, where Winner Massagot (3:20) can defy top weight in the Rasen The Roof Handicap Hurdle.

Alan King’s five-year-old was taken out of last week’s Betfair Hurdle at the five-day stage due to the ground, having won well at Ascot back in November. He failed to back that up in the Ladbroke, but the ground was again softer than ideal that day – even if it is soft here, he can get away with it in this much lesser company. He can take this en route to one of the spring festivals.

Earlier on the card, it will be disappointing if Chocca Wocca can’t make a winning hurdles debut, despite being another who would ideally prefer quicker ground.

Nicky Henderson’s well-bred six-year-old looked full of pace when winning her bumper at Ludlow last term and she can book her ticket to the new mares’ race at Cheltenham by landing the opener. She is sure to be priced up accordingly, however.

Another novice hurdler I’m looking forward to seeing is Potters Corner at Ffos Las, with Paul Morgan’s runner returning from a 130-day lay-off.

A smart bumper performer last term, he is of interest in the opening EBF qualifier, but the ground will be much softer than he has ever encountered and this might well be used as a springboard to the final, or something else in the spring.

Sunday’s selection:
3:20 Market Rasen: Winner Massagot 5/4 Bet365
