Skybet Championship
The 2019/20 Championship looks set to be typically competitive according to the latest odds, with Leeds United once again heading the betting market and you can currently back the Whites at 9/2 (bet365) to land the title.

Marcelo Bielsa has agreed to remain at Elland Road and Leeds narrowly missed out on automatic promotion last season before losing to Derby in the play-offs. They are likely to be a popular wager to finish top of the pile this time around.

Fulham are second favourites at 8/1 with BetVictor, although whether the Cottagers can make an immediate return is open to question, especially with Scott Parker relatively inexperienced as a manager. Nevertheless, Aleksandar Mitrovic has remained at the club and should deliver goals.

By contrast, Neil Warnock has spent decades on the touchline and Unibet have chalked up 9/1 that Cardiff bounce back from their relegation in May, with the Bluebirds likely to be tough opponents under a manager who knows what’s required to land promotion.

West Brom are trading at a slightly bigger price (12/1 bet365) and the Baggies will be led into battle by Slaven Bilic who has no track record of Championship management although the Croatian might attract the calibre of players required for a concerted promotion push.

It’s also been all-change at Middlesbrough with Jonathan Woodgate looking to play an expansive style of football after the departure of Tony Pulis. Boro are 14/1 (Paddy Power) for the title although there might not be funds to spend.

Stoke are more interesting at 14/1 (Unibet) under the progressive Nathan Jones, with the Potters having recruited sensibly during the summer and it should be noted that the manager effectively steered Luton Town up two divisions before leaving for the bet365 Stadium.

Derby County are trading at 18/1 with the same bookmaker and they’ve replaced Frank Lampard with Phillip Cocu, with the Dutchman having signed a four-year deal at Pride Park. The club will be continuing their policy of blooding young players into the Rams first team, while we might expect some loan arrivals from Chelsea.

Of the three relegated teams, Huddersfield are the biggest price to win the Championship title, with the Terriers currently chalked up at 20/1 with Paddy Power. Fellow Yorkshire side Sheffield Wednesday are slightly bigger at 25/1 with bet365 although the departure of manager Steve Bruce has created a chaotic situation.

At a bigger price, we fancy Bristol City to go well and Lee Johnson seems to be confident of a successful campaign at Ashton Gate, with William Hill chalking up 25/1 about the Robins landing the Championship title.

With many Championship clubs’ transfer business restricted by Financial Fair Play, it could be that City are well placed to build on last season’s impressive campaign and Johnson has several quality players in his squad.

Skybet League One
While the Championship could realistically won by at least a dozen football clubs, the same might not apply in League One where there are five teams trading a good deal shorter for the title than everyone else.

It was inevitable that Sunderland would be among the favourites after the Black Cats were beaten by Charlton in the play-off final last term and bet365 go 7/2 about Jack Ross’ team celebrating a League One title triumph next May.

The slight issue for the Wearside club is that they’ve become every other team’s cup final in League One and the brand of football under Ross wasn’t particularly exciting; with the Wembley defeat particularly galling for the fans.

Ipswich Town make a good deal more appeal at odds of 13/2 (Ladbrokes), with George Burley looking to engineer a quick promotion back to the Championship after the Tractor Boys fell woefully short of the required benchmark last term.

James Norwood has arrived to spearhead the team’s attack and Burley is a high-calibre manager at League One level, although they’re not the only club to be making eye-catching signings and Peterborough United have been the gamble of the summer so far.

Posh are an ambitious club and Darren Ferguson has been given a veritable war chest to spend on new players over the past few weeks, with Mo Eisa arriving from Bristol City for a club record fee. Defender Mark Beevers has also been signed and United look like promotion material. They’re now 9/1 (William Hill) to finish top of the pile.

Portsmouth were another side to miss out in the play-offs last term and Kenny Jackett will hope to build on that near-miss next season, with Pompey priced up at 7/1 (bet365) for the title. It’s worth noting that they enjoyed a fast start last term before falling away.

Rotherham United put up a brave fight against the drop from the Championship and the Millers are 11/1 (bet365) to land an immediate promotion from League One by claiming top spot, although it could be a season of consolidation.

There are likely to be one or two surprise packages and Lincoln City are certainly on an upward trajectory, with the Red Imps priced at 20/1 (bet365) to follow up that League Two title triumph by doing the same thing in League One.

BetVictor have 20/1 that Burton Albion are crowned champions, with MK Dons available at 25/1 with Ladbrokes and Paul Tisdale will also be bidding for a consecutive promotion after steering the Dons up from League Two at the first time of asking.

Tranmere Rovers have made some eye-catching signings and Ladbrokes go 50/1 that they win League One, with Oxford United capable of going well at a big price and Paddy Power have chalked up 25/1.

Skybet League Two
The bookmakers are in disagreement over which team should be favourite to win League Two for the 2019/20 season, with bet365 making Bradford City their market leaders at odds of 7/1.

The Bantams had a horrible 2018/19 campaign that saw them relegated from League One, although Gary Bowyer is at the helm and has previously steered Blackpool into the third tier.

Plymouth Argyle and Scunthorpe United also find themselves in League Two after relegation in May, with the Pilgrims acting quickly by appointing Ryan Lowe as manager and the scouser is fresh from engineering promotion with Bury on a fairly modest budget. He’s added star performer Danny Mayor to his squad and the team should go well.

The Devon side are 10/1 with Ladbrokes which looks an attractive price considering that Lowe will have greater resources than last year, while The Iron will now be managed by Paul Hurst and he’s another adept manager at this level. Scunthorpe are 12/1 (BetVictor) to get the title.

However, some bookmakers think a new kid on the block will take all the beating, with Salford City in the Football League for the first time in their history and they continue to be powered by Peter Lim and the Manchester United consortium.

Graham Alexander’s team are 7/1 with bet365 to win the League Two title although it’s worth noting that they only managed to finish third in the National League last term and opposing teams won’t be short of motivation against a team who will be regarded as the moneybags of the division.

Mansfield Town shot themselves in the foot when it came to landing automatic promotion last term, although the Stags continue to hunt for a spot in League One and they’ve changed manager during the summer. Nicky Maynard has also arrived and the Midlands side are an 11/1 poke with Unibet.

Northampton Town could certainly improve on last year’s underwhelming efforts and the Cobblers have been acquiring several new players over the summer, with Keith Curle’s team chalked up at 14/1 with Ladbrokes.

Similarly, we quite like Forest Green at 16/1 (Paddy Power) considering that Mark Cooper’s team were in the play-offs last season and were only a few points away from automatic promotion.

The Stroud-based club are clearly ambitious and they have made the eye-catching signing of Matt Mills in central defence who will play alongside brother Joseph. Cooper’s side finished last season impressively and could well be in the automatic places.

You can make a case for any number of teams and Swindon Town are among them, with Richie Wellens having done pretty well with the Robins last season and confident of an upward trajectory, while Walsall are now managed by Darrell Clarke and the Saddlers are 20/1 with Ladbrokes.
