Jewell In The Town

Live on Skysports 2: Sat 17.20: A couple of newly-appointed managers could be set to make an impact by grabbing wins in the Championship.

Paul Jewell tasted defeat at Millwall in his first proper game in charge of Ipswich but back at Portman Road, where the Tractor Boys beat Arsenal recently, the new boss can see his collect a much-needed three points at the expense of Doncaster.

Rovers have suffered back-to-back heavy defeats in league and cup, going down 3-0 at home to Reading last weekend and losing a replay 5-0 at Wolves on Tuesday. Sean O’Driscoll’s men have also struggled on the road recently and with confidence likely to be wavering in the Doncaster camp, it’s the perfect opportunity for Ipswich, at a tasty 6/5 with Totesport, to ease their relegation worries.

The ‘new manager effect’ can also assist Burnley as they head to Scunthorpe. The appointment of the youthful Eddie Howe at Turf Moor has been seen as a progressive one and he can immediately endear himself to the Clarets faithful by guiding his side to a victory at Glanford Park.

The Iron are in terrible shape at present, their victory in the reverse fixture at Burnley the only match in ten that they haven’t lost while their last four outings have seen them lose 3-0, 2-1, 5-1 and 4-0. Defensively, Ian Baraclough’s side are all at sea at the minute and to top it off they have a truly appalling home record having lost eight of their eleven matches on their own patch, reason enough to back the Clarets at 23/20 (Paddy Power).

Finally, we like the look of a Yakubu flutter as Leicester entertain Millwall. The powerful striker, on loan from Everton, notched on his debut at Preston last weekend and still possesses plenty of class despite being surplus to requirements at Goodison Park.

More than capable of hurting Championship defences, the Nigerian is a sharp finisher who could be rejuvenated following his switch to the Walkers Stadium and champing at the bit after sitting out Leicester’s cup match at Man City in midweek, Yakubu is a steal at 13/10 with Coral to notch against the Lions at some point.

Recommended Bets:
Ipswich to beat Doncaster – 6/5 (Totesport)
Burnley to beat Scunthorpe – 23/20 (Paddy Power)
Yakubu to score at any time for Leicester – 13/10 (Coral)
