Following the unveiling of the weights for the John Smith’s Grand National yesterday, a trio of Irish-trained runners have attracted support, with Backstage the best backed of them. Gordon Elliott’s charge is now 16/1 (from 33/1) with Coral, while Oscar Time is 16/1 (from 25/1), and The Midnight Club the same price, from 20/1.
“If the early betting action on this year’s John Smith’s Grand National is anything to go by, the Irish will head to Aintree with high hopes of taking the prize back across the Irish Sea, with Backstage in particular well-backed to give trainer Gordon Elliott a second National win,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
