The final day of Glorious Goodwood with the feature race the Group 1 Nassau Stakes today’s highlight; last month’s Curragh winner Misty For Me (3.10) locks horns again with the Sir Henry Cecil-trained mare Midday who reopposes on 2lb better terms.

It is possible that Misty For Me was flattered by the margin of that victory given she had an easy lead, but she was 6l ahead at the line and in receipt of the weight from her elders she is a confident selection.

The Irish filly had previously appeared a non stayer over the Oaks trip of 12f but she can confirm Irish form with Midday who is looking for her third successive win in today’s race and won’t go down without a fight. This is no two-horse race, however, with last year’s dual Oaks heroine Snow Fairy and recent facile Newmarket winner Crystal Capella also in a stellar line-up.

The big betting race of the day is the Stewards’ Cup and Hoof It will be all the rage to follow up last weekend’s comfortable York success under a 6lb penalty. Owned by World Number 2 golfer Lee Westwood and his manager Chubby Chandler, Hoof It is likely to be stepped up in class for his next start but weight can stop a train and with 10st he is overlooked.

Mac’s Power (7/1 with ) was first home on his side in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and is drawn next to the far rail in stall 1 this afternoon; it is possible that he has another poor draw given there is little pace at first glance on his side but in a wide open event he gets the nod. Do note we are paying ¼ odds first 5 in the Stewards’ Cup.

The Barry Hills horses appear to have turned the corner and Sharaayeen (2.35) steps up to the Ebor trip of 1m 6f for the first time; currently 25/1 for the York race next month those odds are likely to contract with a bold show this afternoon although his stamina must be taken on trust.

Sports Section (4.20) ran very well when runner up on debut at Newmarket in a race that often throws up plenty of winners and this Derby entry can go one better in the 7f maiden. Richard Hannon has saddled the winner of this corresponding race in three of the last four years and his two runners are greatly respected in what looks a hot maiden.

There is competitive card at Doncaster with a fascinating 6f conditions race and I am hopeful of a big run from Winker Watson (2.45). The selection was a leading juvenile when trained by Peter Chappell-Hyam but was off the track for two years (had an unsuccessful spell at stud!) before a good reappearance at Newcastle last month. Not beaten too far in the July Cup last time the Mick Channon trained 6-y-o will appreciate the drop in class and on his best form he would be something to bet on.

Do also keep a close eye going forward on Mister Hughie who has been taken out of the Stewards’ Cup at the overnight stage to run nearer to home. Tim Easterby’s charge is unfavoured by the weights but there could be a big race in him before the end of the campaign.

There is a competitive 10f handicap later in the card and last year’s C&D winner Bourne (3.55) ran a career best in the Old Newton Cup last time and whilst this drop back in trip is not sure to suit (holds an Ebor entry) the 5-y-o remains lightly raced for one of his age and open to further improvement.

The Channel 4 cameras are also at Newmarket and Invisible Man (4.40) deserves to get his head back in front having run a cracker when trying to win back-to-back Hunt Cups at Royal Ascot last month on his penultimate start.

A bigger field would ideally suit but William Buick could make all on the 5-y-o (did so to break his maiden tag) if there was a lack of pace and he should return to winning ways before a crack at the Celebration Mile at the end of August.

We are betting ¼ odds all races at both Newmarket and Good this afternoon at .
