Kempton stages a decent card on Tuesday, with the 2m5f novice hurdle a really interesting race with the future in mind; several of these should go on to better things, probably over fences in time.
Paul Nicholls runs bumper winner Sky Watch in that event, but probably has a better chance of a winner in the opener when he saddles useful handicap chaser Shooters Wood (1:50) in the Help For Heroes “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.
The nine-year-old, who won a couple of Cheltenham handicaps earlier in the season over fences, arrives here on the back of a couple of disappointing runs, but this represents a massive drop in class.
If he runs up to the form of his Cheltenham victories and translates it to the smaller obstacles, Ruby Walsh’s mount should be difficult to beat.
At Exeter, course winner Theatre Guide ought to land the novice chase, but Colin Tizzard’s six-year-old has failed to complete on his last three starts, so mightn’t be one to take too short a price about. He looks just to have Coole River to beat and his price will determine if he is betting material this afternoon.
