Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Friday; Memphis Tennessee in the Chester 2.45 and Say in the Cork 8.20. Compare odds and bet.
Aidan O’Brien maintained his fine record at the Chester May meeting with Ruler Of The World yesterday and Memphis Tennessee (2:45) is taken to further enhance that this afternoon, by landing a second successive Ormonde Stakes.
The son of Hurricane Run, who was trading at Evs last night (with Boylesports and Paddy Power), finished fourth in the Epsom Derby and third in the Irish equivalent a couple of years back and looked to have a very bright four-year-old campaign ahead of him when bolting up in this 12 months ago.
Things didn’t go to plan thereafter, as he trailed home last of 12 behind Sea Moon in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, but the fact he wasn’t seen again suggests all was not right.
He faces a stiffer opponent this afternoon in the shape of Mount Athos, but the softening ground conditions are much more in his favour and he can make a winning reappearance again. Currently 20/1 for the Ascot Gold Cup (for which Mount Athos is a best price 12/1, incidentally) that could well become the target if all goes well here.
O’Brien can complete a double with Say (8:20) in the concluding maiden at Cork this evening. The Galileo filly, who remains in the Oaks among other Group races, was touched off on her seasonal return over 1m2f and should relish the step up in trip.
Friday’s selections:
2:45 Chester: Memphis Tennessee; evens William Hill
8:20 Cork: Say; 4/5 William Hill
