Paul Ferguson has two selection for us on Tuesday; Springinherstep in the Wincanton 2.20 and Rebel Fitz in the Killarney 5.15. Compare odds and bet.
Wincanton are expecting rain overnight, but it is hoped the track avoids a deluge as Springinherstep (2:20) wants a decent surface to show her true colours and, granted those conditions, she can return to winning ways in the opening mares’ novices’ hurdle.
Nicky Henderson’s six-year-old bolted up in a Southwell bumper last July and also on her second start over timber at Huntingdon last month. She was unable to cope with a rise in class at Cheltenham last time, where she was too keen for her own good having travelled well throughout.
A return to quicker ground and a sharper track in lesser company should suit and she looks to have Alan King’s recent Worcester winner Fairyinthewind to beat.
Over at Killarney, the opening beginners’ chase looks a cracker in which Darwins Fox is the pick of those with previous form. He sets the standard, but faces smart hurdlers Steps To Freedom and Rebel Fitz (5:15) with ready preference for last year’s Galway Hurdle winner.
Michael Winters’ eight-year-old was last seen trailing home behind Hurricane Fly at the Punchestown Festival, but he has always given the impression he would make a smart chaser (makes a nice shape over his hurdles) and he can make a winning debut under Barry Geraghty.
