Three more at Royal Ascot

Paul Ferguson another three selections for us at Royal Ascot on Wednesday; Kipps at 2.25, Japan at 3.00 and Fujaira Prince at 4.40.

A winner at the meeting 12 months ago Japan (3:00) is fancied to land Wednesday’s feature from Royal Ascot, the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

The son of Galileo is probably at his very best over a mile-and-a-half, but he won the Juddmonte International at this trip last season, whilst leaving the impression that he could be even better at four. With the Aidan O’Brien stable in such fine form in the early weeks of the season, there is no real concern over fitness, and he looks a solid favourite.

There are two really competitive middle-distance handicaps on the card, starting with the King George V Stakes for the three-year-olds. The pair I like here are Kipps (2:25) and Win O’Clock and I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off splitting stakes on them.

The former gets the marginal vote, as he runs off the same mark from which he finished runner-up at Haydock last Sunday, when he was only narrowly denied. He travelled like a horse who is better than his current mark, and he shouldn’t have a problem going up in distance. Drawn right next door, Win O’Clock won impressively at Haydock the following day, earning him a 4lbs penalty for this. He, too, left the impression that he will improve for the extra two furlongs, and a big run looks on the cards from both.

Regular readers of my work will know that I was with Fujaira Prince (4:40) in the early part of last season, and he ran well at this meeting when third in the Duke Of Edinburgh. He had Collide back in fifth that day and is better off at the weights here, so despite the absence of a year, I’m happy to take a chance on his fitness. The longer trip ought to suit, and I fancy him to land a nice prize or two this season.

Of the opposition, Alright Sunshine is another who I followed closely last season, and he comes down in grade, having reappeared in the Sagaro Stakes at Newcastle.

Wednesday’s selections:
2:25 Royal Ascot – Kipps; 6/1 bet365
3:00 Royal Ascot – Japan; 10/11 Unibet
4:40 Royal Ascot – Fujaira Prince; 5/1 Ladbrokes
