Paul Ferguson two selections from Southwell on Wednesday; Enemy Coast Ahead at 2.10 and Sangha River at 2.40. Compare odds and bet.
National Hunt racing returns to the UK on Wednesday, with Southwell staging a nine-race card. Trainer Olly Murphy sends four runners to the Nottinghamshire track, and could well get his season off to a flyer.
Enemy Coast Ahead (2:10) makes his debut for the yard in division one of the novices’ hurdle, and the Stratford bumper winner can strike under Adrian Heskin. Runner-up on his sole start over hurdles, at Newbury in December, better ground might suit this six-year-old, who looked full of speed when winning his bumper for Tom George.
Murphy can land division two as well, with the returning Sangha River (2:40) who has been absent since February 2018. He had earlier won a Doncaster bumper on his debut under Rules, and really ought to have made it two-from-two in that sphere, when coming from off the pace to finish runner-up at Lingfield. He looked an exciting prospect at the time, and if he returns to anywhere near that sort of level, he could be in for a good summer.
Another returning from a huge lay-off is Hunters Call, in the 2m4f handicap hurdle. We haven’t seen the 10-year-old since he beat Silver Streak and Verdana Blue at Ascot in December 2017, and the handicapper has given him a chance by dropping him back to that same mark.
