Fergie’s Friday racing tips

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Friday; Wilde About Oscar in the 12:50 and Minella Bobo 13:50 both at Uttoxeter. Compare odds and bet.

Uttoxeter stages a cracking card on Friday, where Dan and Harry Skelton will be hoping to get off to a great start, with the pair looking to hold very strong claims in both divisions of the novices’ hurdle.

Champion Bumper fourth Third Time Lucki looks like he will be priced up pretty short indeed for the opener, whilst the same owners’ Wilde About Oscar (12:50) also boasts some fairly strong bumper form, having finished fourth in a Listed even when last seen. Skelton likes to start off his nice novice hurdlers at this track, and this five-year-old looks a decent prospect.

Of the opposition, racecourse debutant Lord of Kerak is one to pay attention to, as he has a lovely pedigree (half-brother to Hell’s Kitchen) and cost his powerful connections a lot as a three-year-old.

The Visit attheraces.com Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase looks an absolute cracker and wouldn’t be out of place at one of the feature winter meetings next month. A genuine case can be made for several of these, but Minella Bobo (1:50) was a horse who I was really looking forward to over fences last year. He failed to make it to the track, but his form continued to work out well, so I was pleasantly surprised that he was dropped a further 4lbs, to an attractive mark of 122.

The grey should relish conditions and if tuned up for this return, could go very well indeed, under Brian Hughes. This race should be watched very closely with the future in mind, as it could throw up a handful of future chase winners.

Down at Fakenham, it is nice to see Aidan Coleman back in action (following a spell on the sidelines) and having been confirmed as stable jockey to Olly Murphy earlier in the week, he will be keen to return with a winner. He rides useful handicap hurdler Skandiburg in the novices’ chase, and he might well exploit the 10lbs that he receives from Young Wolf on this chasing debut. A bumper and hurdles winner at the track, he has had a wind-op since last seen, and looks the type to take to fences.

Friday’s selections:
12:50 Uttoxeter – Wilde About Oscar; 10/11 William Hill
1:50 Uttoxeter – Minella Bobo (e/w); 8/1 William Hill
