Cork stages a fantastic mares beginners chase on Sunday, with Kala Conti and in particular, Jade de Grugy exciting recruits. The latter is sure to be a short price based on hurdles form, but THE BIG WESTERNER (2:10) shapes like the one who could improve more than most for going chasing. A big, imposing mare, the six-year-old finished runner-up in the Albert Bartlett in March and has a good record when fresh. Although softer ground would be even more advantageous, she is taken to lower the colours of Jade de Grugy.
