Paul Ferguson has four selections for us at Aintree on Thursday; Lulamba in the 2.20, Barton Snow 3.30, Highlands Legacy 4.40 and Princess Day 5.15. | Free Bets |
Although Koktail Divin is respected with conditions to suit, Lulamba (2:20) is fancied to land the Manifesto Novices’ Chase at Aintree, with the extra half-mile looking sure to suit the Arkle third. Upwards of 12lb clear of his rivals on official BHA Ratings, the five-year-old looks a cut above and can justify his short price.
Unexpected Party is very much shortlist material in the Foxhunters’ but with the ground continuing to dry out, conditions should be ideal for Cheltenham winner Barton Snow (3:30) who will relish the shorter trip and sharper test, given how he travelled on Gold Cup day. He can follow up for Joe O’Shea, who has won this race twice in the past five years.
In the Red Rum, I like the chances of Highlands Legacy (4:40) who should be backed each-way in a competitive handicap. Jonjo & A J O’Neill’s novice missed the cut for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, but his form continues to work out very well and he is another who will like the good ground. The strong traveller should run a big race.
And, in the concluding mares’ bumper, I like Princess Day (5:15) although the form of the Jeremy Scott yard (without a winner since February) is a slight concern and a positive showing from Golden Ace in the Aintree Hurdle would enhance confidence. The grey is 2-2 in bumpers and also won her Point and with proven form on nice ground, she can strike under Lorcan Williams.
