BetVictor have reported massive demand on betting at The Open, especially Westwood and Mahan, but Woods and McIlroy are friendless.
As a result of BetVictor’s refund if Luke Donald, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood or Sergio Garcia lift the Claret Jug on Sunday there has been a mass of bets and support has come for Westwood (still 16s), Hunter Mahan (still 50s), Ricky Fowler (33s from 40) and Matt Kuchar 50s from 66s.
BetVictor Spokesperson Charlie McCann: “Punters have deserted Woods and Rory McIlroy and, with three wins on the PGA Tour this year, you wonder why punters have largely ignored the 3-Time Open winner. Some may be concerned with his early start on Thursday, which is likely to be in the worst of condition on the opening day, but then you see the money for Westwood and Kuchar who are also both out in the morning. McIlroy has a late start on the first day but is another who punters have turned their back on and, with the weather forecast not too bad until the final day; it is possible that the layers will be cheering for a Woods-McIlroy shoot-out on the back nine on Sunday.”
