Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Sunday; Tasitiocht in the 2.15 and Caponata in the 3.45 both running at Gowran Park. Compare odds and bet.
As with most of the past week, the pick of the action on Sunday comes from Ireland, with Gowran Park staging a cracking mixed card.
Though she has been narrowly beaten when selected in this column the last twice, I’m prepared to give another chance to Caponata (3:45) in the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes.
Dermot Weld’s three-year-old had earlier won a maiden over course-and-distance and a Listed event at Naas, before twice being worn down late on in Group company. This looks a slightly easier contest than the Blanford Stakes, in which she was beaten just a short head by Up last time.
A reproduction of that effort should be good enough and she was trading at 5/2 with Paddy Power overnight, with Boylesports only prepared to offer 7/4.
Earlier on the card Tasitiocht (2:15) is worth backing in the opening maiden hurdle, for Willie and Patrick Mullins.
The Oscar mare finished runner-up to stable-mate Glens Melody (won impressively twice since) on debut at the Punchestown Festival, before easily winning bumpers at Kilbeggan in June and Cork in July.
Beaten at Galway last month when she was looking for the hat-trick, the five-year-old will appreciate today’s better ground as well as the step up to 2m4f and she could be good enough to strike at the first time of asking over timber.
I’m taking a break for a few days after today, but will be back with my column next Saturday. Good luck for the week ahead.
Sunday’s selections:
2:15 Gowran Park Tasitiocht
3:45 Gowran Park Caponata
