Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Sunday; Mr Watson in the Plumpton 12.55. Compare odds and bet.
Some really interesting stuff over in Ireland on Sunday at Naas, where Champion Bumper winner Champagne Fever steps up in trip in the Grade 2 Slaney Novice Hurdle over 2m4f.
Mikael D’Haguenet won this contest for the same connections back in 2009 and it will be disappointing if this six-year-old, who lost little in defeat behind Jezki (impressive winner over Christmas) in the Royal Bond last time, fails to return to winning ways.
He will be sent off at prohibitive odds, however, so is best watched, while the same colours will be carried by Ruby Walsh earlier aboard Marito in an interesting novice chase, where he faces Mount Benbulben and Jenari.
Later on the card smart mare Our Girl Salley races under optimum conditions in the mares beginners’ chase and should go close at the fourth time of asking over the larger obstacles. This is no penalty kick, however, and at the prices she is best watched, too.
In terms of the day’s selection, that comes in the opener at Plumpton where Mr Watson (12:55) is fancied to score for Jonjo O’Neill and AP McCoy.
Third in a valuable bumper before joining current connections for £215,000 last April, the six-year-old failed to get home on debut at Market Rasen before racing very keenly at Cheltenham last time.
Eventually sixth behind Melodic Rendezvous (winner of the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown yesterday), the son of Gold Well clearly needs to learn to settle in the first time hood, but this sharper track should suit and he could be a class above this lot.
