Rory Mcllroy is a hot favourite at 11/2 to follow up his victories in the Open Championship and Bridgestone Invitational by landing his fourth Major title this week in the USPGA Championship and the Northern Irishman is cleary the man to beat.
When prevailing at Firestone on Sunday, McIlroy suggested he had never been more relaxed when closing out a big event, which is ominous for the rest of the field.
I really fancy Sergio Garcia at 20/1 with Coral, who like most of the big firms are offering six places for each-way wagers.
The Spaniard is playing some of the best golf of his career at present and lost little in defeat at Hoylake in the Open after a tremendous final round. Along with Lee Westwood, he’s one of the best current players not to have won a Major but while Garcia will fancy his chances, Westwood is probably playing for his Ryder Cup Place.
Phil Mickleson is also over the odds at 33/1, which is huge considering he had a spectacular round to close in Akron at the weekend.
My third selection has been overlooked hence his odds of 66/1. American Brandt Snedeker has suffered from back problems but assured me he was over these recently and looks sure to give punters a decent run for their money on a course he will love.
As for Tiger Woods, a winner when the torunament was last staged at Valhalla back in 2000, he will give it to the last moment to decide if he is fit to play after injuring his back during his final round on Sunday but even by his standards a victory in Kentucky would be outrageous.
Finally, those that like a huge price may consider Patrick Reed at 80/1; he’s a player not lacking in confidence and looks to be returning to form.
Whatever happens though, it should be a thrilling final Major of 2014.
