Disappointing on heavy ground at Uttoxeter last month, Saint Davy (4:20) had been progressive earlier in the season, winning handicaps at Ludlow and Sandown. Only 5lbs higher, perhaps the ground was too testing for him on Midlands National day, as although he has won on soft previously, the lightly-raced seven-year-old is 3-3 on good-to-soft. This is likely to be the quickest ground that he will have encountered, but if conditions are deemed suitable, I would happily give him another chance before he goes chasing next term. I still believe that he could be a Graded-class performer in time.
