Bank On 14/1 Saturday Double

Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Trade Commissioner in the 2.40 at Sandown and Great Heavens in the 2.55 at Haydock. Compare odds and bet.

It could be a huge day for the in-form trainer John Gosden and long-serving owner Lady Rothschild, with their leading light Nathaniel set to make his reappearance in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown.

The four-year-old is the best horse in the race for me, but he’s making a belated seasonal reappearance over a trip short of his best, so I’m prepared to watch rather than play this afternoon.

Earlier on the card, the same connections’ Trade Commissioner (2:40) is fancied to defy a 12lb rise in the handicap to land the valuable Coral Challenge.

The Montjeu gelding only made his debut in March at the age of four and he got off the mark at this track on his second start. After finishing third at Newmarket, he relished the drop back to this trip when bolting up at Salisbury last month.

The selection, who was a best price 5/2 (William Hill) early on Saturday morning, could well be a Group horse waiting to happen and he can defy his inexperience as well as the handicapper to score for William Buick.

If Haydock survives an early morning inspection, Gosden and Rothschild can land the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks too, with the unexposed and improving Great Heavens (2:55).

The Galileo filly looked a thorough stayer when beating a subsequent winner at Yarmouth in May and she did us a good turn when following up in Listed company at Newbury last month.

Her Yarmouth success came on heavy ground and the ability to handle such conditions will stand for a lot today, with the Merseyside track notorious for becoming bottomless when it rains.

The selection was a best price 7/2 with bet365 this morning and she can round off a memorable 15 minutes for connections.

Saturday’s selections:
2:40 Sandown Trade Commissioner (5/2, William Hill)
2:55 Haydock Great Heavens (7/2, bet365)
