It is interesting that Willie Mullins sends juvenile hurdle winners Highwind (7:50) and Bunting back on the Flat at Killarney this evening, with the former fancied to win the 2m handicap (Bunting faces a 106-rated rival in the concluding conditions race). Although the handicap looks like a strong race, the selection looked good on hurdling debut at Punchestown – where he beat Pigeon House (recent Punchestown winner) and Lark In The Mornin (winner of the Boodles at Cheltenham – and has raced exclusively in Grade 1 company since. His jumping hasn’t been great, so it is no real surprise to see him revert to the level and a winner in France before joining current connections, he looks to be of huge interest off a mark of 90. His earlier Flat form has come over much shorter, so he is completely unexposed as a stayer and it isn’t hard to envisage him developing into a smart handicapper this summer.
